The Duolingo English Test rewards strategy as much as English ability — and most learners never get taught the strategy part.

I'm Sam — Teacher Sam to regular readers — and I've spent years breaking down every question type on the DET: Listen & Type, Interactive Reading, Interactive Listening, Read & Select, and the writing and speaking tasks that trip up even strong English speakers. This site is where that work lives.

You'll find question-type breakdowns, score-band strategies, and practice material built from actual DET mechanics — not generic English-test advice recycled from TOEFL or IELTS guides.

I'm also writing a full DET preparation textbook series, and this blog doubles as free companion material for it — practice you can use whether or not you ever pick up the book.
